Letter From The Sheriff
July 20, 2009 No CommentsLadies and Gentlemen of the Kalamazoo County Reserve Division, It is with great pride of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Reserve Division and its members that I prepare this correspondence.
The following are examples of recent events where you, as ambassadors of our agency, were called upon for assistance and represented our agency with exemplary professionalism and dedication. It is an honor to commend the Reserve Division for their preparedness and support.
Sgt. Tim Randall of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety required assistance during the Youth Academy being held at the Fort Custer Training Facility. He was faced with potential security issues and requested night patrol. With very short notice, our Reserve Division was called upon to assist. Without hesitation or delay, your unit agreed to assist. This allowed the Academy counselors to rest at ease during the night.
I received an email from Sgt. Randall this week. He expressed sincere gratitude for the hard work and professionalism put forth by your unit during this assignment.
The Reserve Deputy Division is a hard working unit. It was truly evident this week.
On top of your dedication and duty at the Fort Custer Youth Academy, you were also called upon to assist during the Vice Presidential visit.
As part of the Vice Presidential motorcade, I personally witnessed a sight which leaves with me with a memory of pride and gratitude. While leading the motorcade I observed representatives of our agency in many forms; Deputies, Detectives, Reserve Officers and Mounted Division personnel lining the motorcade path. As directed, not one officer fell off course. Those assigned to traffic posts were preventing vehicles from obstructing the motorcade path. Those assigned to security, did so with paramount skill.
What I observed was truly a great group of professionals working together towards a common goal – public safety. Captain Green also pointed out that you, our Reserve Division, supplied 51 people to work the events listed above as well as the Vicksburg Car Show. Service like this does not happen when people do not care. This is the sign of a motivated, dedicated, highly professional organization.
I appreciate everything your division achieves and represents. I sincerely do.
With gratitude,
Richard C. Fuller III, Sheriff
